Are Dogs The Most Intelligent Species?

I often wonder when looking at our little dog if there as ever been or ever will be a more intelligent species on our planet. Whilst us humans in many cases feel maybe selfishly that we are the most intelligent I look at our little dog and think who really is the master of this household and who is the slave. He can communicate effectively without the need for words only the odd woof here and there which he as trained us very well to understand and act upon! He as made slaves of us, if he requires water he scrapes his bowl and we come running, the same again if he needs food!, when he wants to go out he stands near the back door and gives us a certain look, we again go running! when he wants to come back inside one mild woof at the door does the trick we run to let him in! About eightish every night he stands near the front door and gives a certain little fascial expression which is recognised and understood as right come on I need to go for a walk!.

From the first day he arrived he as never had to work and he as a life of complete luxury with everyone in the household at his beck and call, we are but slaves around him!

His ancesters certainly new what they were doing when they used to scavenge around our ancesters cave fires they have created an heaven on earth for most of their species where they can enjoy a luxury life of retirement from their first to their last day.

What do you think about of my opinion is it correct?, I can assure people I am not losing the plot!, but I do think that a dogs intelligence is often greatly under estimated!

Business Telephone Systems Are Great Or Are They?

How often do you phone up a company hoping to speak directly to someone and suddenly find that you are faced with having to choose from 5 different options and then after making your choice you get a second choice of 4 options and then again another choice of 5 options and then finally a choice from 3 options and then after all this and 10 minutes later you discover that you have a robot the other end of the line and you just get a message that is totally unhelpful as you chose the wrong option somewhere back down your chain of choices! At this point you rarely get the chance to go back the phone system usually just cuts you off once the robot as finished talking and you are left to phone back and hope that you choose more wisely the second time around, but the second time around if you are unfortunate again you may get to hear 15 minutes of some obscure symphony before been cut off because the phone system decided that you have been waiting for far to long and and so it decides to ask you to try again later!

Is it just me that gets infuriated with these complex telephone systems that some companies have?

Traditional Country Village Pubs RIP

Firstly we witnessed the sudden demise of the country village shops mainly due to the rise of large superstores, and now all of a sudden over the past 12 months or so the traditional village pubs seem to have started declining in a drastic fashion.

I can think of six traditional village pubs that have closed in recent months within about 8 miles of the small Lincolnshire town where I live.

I have my own thoughts as to what is the cause of this sharp decline, have you witnessed a similar decline locally yourself and if so what do you feel is causing this to happen?

Health and Safety important but wow how boring!

Health & Safety is a tremendously important issue not only within the workplace but also in all areas and aspects of life. Myself I did a year long course on the subject back at the turn of the century plus I have attended a few one day health & safety refresher courses. The point of discussion that I am bringing up although is on a personal basis when I did my main course I found the subject of health & safety to be extremely boring, and although I am not guilty of falling asleep during lectures it is not an exaggeration to say that it was not a rare event to start hearing snoring in the class room! Even the lecturer admitted on more that one occasion that it was the most boring subject to teach. I would be interested in hearing other peoples opinions or views on this subject, could it have been the lecturers fault and the way that he taught the subject as if he found it a boring subject then obviously this can not have helped his teaching style! Or is it just a plain boring subject?

Explaining Business format franchises

Business format franchises usually fall into one of these two main categories

A franchise job (Is where the franchisee actually does all the manual work themselves providing a hands on service to their clients)·

Management based franchise (Is where the franchisee is mainly managing by means of delegating others to do the manual work for them)

It is very important to recognise the difference between these two categories as it will help you to locate and find a franchise that will be suitable for you and the skills that you possess.

The best of luck

It is customary when playing pool or snooker before the start of each frame to shake hands and wish your opponent the best of luck. Whilst I do not mean to knock the custom I do often wonder how many players genuinely hope their opponent does have the luck of the baize! If you lose through a fluky black been potted at the end of the frame are you honestly pleased that he had the luck and didn't beat you with a clean pot? I think not!

I am one of the biggest advocates of shaking hands and wishing good luck to my opponent before a frame, and been honest I do not mind losing but if it is a lucky fluke it does niggle a little!

Your a sucker

Children these days who would have them? We have recently arrived back from our yearly family holiday having toured for 12 days around bonnie Scotland doing over 2000 miles in the process!

Our small or should I say wee laddie Robert came out with a comment at Blair Atholl castle as we were passing a piper playing his bagpipes your a sucker he said, ROBERT do not be so rude you naughty little boy I replied, thankfully the piper did not hear him! I said why use a comment like that? Robert said well dad he is a sucker a man in a dress sucking his instrument! No Robert you are wrong lad that man is not sucking those bagpipes he is blowing them and his dress is the Scottish national dress which is actually called a kilt, Oh right dad so he is a blower then Robert replied. So now somebody who appears a little out of the ordinary to Robert is no longer commented to as your a sucker it is your a blower instead! Have I started a new trend?

Kids who would have them? ;-)

Give your employees a treat remove the staff toilet door!

Many years ago when I worked in the building industry we acquired a job to renovate a factory. Part of the job was to include building new toilet cubicles for all the shop floor workers; upon examining the plans we discovered that there was no provision for doors on these toilet cubicles! We approached the factory MD over this matter and he confirmed that he did not want any doors fitting on the new toilet cubicles.

He went on to explain that many years previously when he had being an apprentice in Coventry that many of the workers used to take their newspapers and lock themselves away in the toilets for half an hour or more at a time and he did not wish to encourage this practice with in his own factory. He said that if staff wanted to use the toilet then they should go, do their business and get straight back to their stations toilet doors would just encourage them to skive!

What do you think about this? have you come across anything similar?

Public Toilets Critically Endangered Species

It as become evident to me over the past seven years of the rapid demise of the public toilet. I spend a lot of my working life leaflet dropping, delivering circulars through class 1, 2 and 3 properties. There as been many occasions particularly on cold drafty days that my lower body suddenly phones up above and says quick we have another urgent job to attend to! I usually act on this phone call pretty rapidly and head back to the car to go in search of the critically endangered species the public toilet. Often although I have to travel mile upon mile to find one and even sometimes when I finally get there it is to late it as died, many that I used to know of have been chained up and boarded waiting to be put in their final resting place! My own small town used to have 4 but now there is only one left and that one is in the most inconvenient place imaginable!

It wouldn't be quite so bad you would think living and working in a rural location, but a few years ago most of the hedges were taken down from around the fields so it is not that easy even to find a private spot out in the country side. Where there are hedges you then often have the inconvenience of a blasted scarecrow gawping at you! Just how inconvenient can it get?

What ever happened to spend a penny there is no place left to spend one if you are keen and eager to spend one.

I regularly hear about critically endangered species but I have never yet heard of the public toilet been placed on this list. Is it still thriving in other areas? Is it just rural Lincolnshire where it is vanishing? Please is there someone that can do something about it and stop this demise before it is to late? and make my business life a little more bearable.

Banana fritters for that more rounded cuddly figure

One of my favourite after dinner desserts is a banana fritter covered in tasty golden syrup.

A great little bonus if you make them yourself is the scrumps/scraps/bits that are left over in the deep fat fryer to scoop into your bowl. Banana fritters really are great for those of you who need to put on a few extra pounds! The pounds increase oh so rapidly if eaten on a regular basis, in no time at all you can change from being a twiggy figure to a couch potato!

The recipe for banana fritters follows

Batter mix

4 ozs plain flour
Pinch of salt
1 egg
1/4 of a pint of milk and water mixed
1 dessertspoon of vegetable oil

Method

Prepare the batter by mixing very little because over beating tends to make an elastic batter that will not adhere very well to the bananas. Once prepared then place in a cold spot preferably a fridge, do this around half an hour before you require using it.

The only other ingredient that you need for banana fritters is the bananas themselves.

To prepare the bananas they need peeling and slicing. I usually cut them in half and then slice each half into two, giving four slices in total. Next you need to dip your banana slices into the pre prepared batter and carefully drop them into your deep fat fryer. Be careful on health and safety grounds not to burn yourself at this point, I always use a set of tongues to carry out this operation. After about 8-10 mins once the batter as turned into a lovely golden brown colour the banana fritters are ready to be removed from your deep fat fryer and served up. Myself I prefer about a desert spoon full of golden syrup poured on the top of each fritter.

You can now sit back and enjoy a thoroughly tasty dish! Well that's what I think anyway!

Ex Military Service Personnel Can They Be Trained As Franchisees?

I have been giving a great deal of thought recently about what classification of individual would make an ideal franchisee and my conclusion is that ex military service personnel would come right up there somewhere near the top of the list if not top itself!

My view is that ex military service personnel with their regimented background would make great students during their initial franchise training as they are moulded to follow instructions to the book.

They would methodically follow the franchise bible or operational manual to the word without questioning its contents.

If the franchisor realized that they were doing something wrong within their franchise business they would gladly take instructions on correct operational techniques without creating a fuss over it.

They would work hard to make a success of their business and not shy away from working long hours if necessary to get their business firmly and quickly established.

Because of their recent military background they would be physically and mentally fit, which these are two of the greatest assets that they would require to succeed as franchisees.

Ex Military Service Personnel make sure that they are always presentable and would take great care in their personal appearance.

Feel free to mention any other assets that ex military service personnel might have that would be beneficial to them becoming a franchisee

Domestic Cleaning Businesses Witnessing Boom Times

Well the recession that isn't a recession in some quarters is certainly any think but a recession with in the domestic cleaning services industry.

With many families in reality feeling the pinch due to increased costs in basic commodities such as oil and food many families who used to have one partner stopping at home to look after clean and maintain their family home have decided that they should both now go out to work to help cover the extra costs of these basic everyday commodities to maintain their quality of life.

For domestic cleaning services up and down the country this as led to an increase in business because now that these family households have felt the need to get an extra income stream coming into their household they are now finding that they do not wish to clean and iron during the evening and weekends and as such many are turning to the services of domestic cleaning companies for assistance.

Do you know of any other industries that this recession that isn't a recession is bringing boom times too?

Work from Home Businesses setting up your Home Office

If you are considering setting up an office in your own home to run your own work from home business from it is important to consider a few very important points regarding where you would situate your office.

Where should I place my office within my home?

You should take into consideration the other side of your life if you have one (personal/family), it would not be a wise choice to say partition part of your main living room off as you could well find that in a very short space of time that you are trapped and feel compelled to work all hours, as you would be potentially bothered by your phone ringing at any time of the day/night, also you might well succumb to temptation and feel a compulsion to constantly sit in your office checking emails etc with the door slightly ajar so neglecting your family to a great extent. Also you could well find that during normal office hours intrusions into your working day could become all to common by your family and even friends and this could cause your business problems.

In my own case I have recently finished building during my spare time an extension to the rear of my property to serve as my work from home, home based office. This extension is an integral part of the house and designed in a way that if we were to move it would swiftly be able to convert into a large dinning room or even an extra living room etc. The office is designed so as there is only one door for entering or alternatively for exiting. For potential fire reasons the main window opens to a 90-degree angle to enable any staff to be able to escape if disaster struck and the means of escape through the only door were subsequently impaired. At weekends and during the evenings if I so desire I can now lock my office door and retreat to the front of the house and lead a normal family life.

An ideal room to run your work from home business from within your own home is also a small bedroom if you have a spare one available. Again like my office you could shut the door and leave your business alone during your out of work hours and so devote your spare time to your family.

Personally although my ideal location, although others may well wish to disagree would be to build a purpose built office or convert an existing building such as an old stable block into an office on my land but independent from my household. Unfortunately I did not have this option available to me but I do know that there would be many people out there who would have. This option although would certainly have extra security and insurance implications connected to it so it would be very advisable to do research into these added implications before commencing with your work.

Other outside options are porter cabins and even converting old caravans. Personally but mainly for appearance reasons I would never ever consider this option, as I do not think that it is ideal in ones garden! Maybe I am a snob as I am aware of home based businesses that have gone down this route, but unfortunately its not a route that I would go down.
